Privacy, in plain words

ChiLocal is a members-only night-out picker for Chicago, run by one person — not a company harvesting data. This page says exactly what the site stores, why, and how to make it all disappear.

What we store

Your email address — it's your login, and how we'd send you a password reset or (only if you opted in) the weekly digest.
The name you gave us — so the app can say hi. Any nickname is fine.
A scrypt hash of your password — the password itself is never stored, never readable, never transmitted anywhere after signup.
Your weekly-digest choice — the checkbox at signup (or in Settings). Unchecked means no email, ever, beyond account essentials.
Session tokens — random, stored only as hashes, expiring after 30 days, so you stay signed in.

That's the whole list. All of it lives in one SQLite database on our own server — not in anyone's cloud.

What we don't do

No analytics, trackers, ad pixels, or fingerprinting scripts.
No selling, renting, or sharing your data with anyone — full stop.
No third-party sign-in, so no login provider watching you.
No location storage — the "find me" feature runs entirely in your browser and nothing about where you are is sent to us.
No marketing email unless you ticked the digest box yourself, and every digest carries an off switch (also in Settings → Your account).

Cookies

Exactly one: chilocal_sess, the HttpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in. There are no advertising or cross-site cookies of any kind.

Map imagery

The map's background detail comes from OpenStreetMap-based tile servers (CARTO, Esri). When your browser fetches those images, those services see your IP address the way any image host does — we send them nothing about you, and no account data ever leaves our server.

Deleting your account

Settings → Your account → Delete my account. It asks for your password, then erases your account, sessions, and email from the database immediately — no grace period, no soft delete, no "we'll keep it for analytics." Gone is gone.

Questions or requests? Reply to any email ChiLocal has sent you, or ask the person who gave you access — this is a small members-only site and a human reads everything.
